A 14-year-old Girl Scout who became a star in San Diego for her blockbuster cookie-selling totals died suddenly after collapsing at a middle school dance. Sabrina Keller, 14, was celebrating the end of 8th grade with 250 classmates at Woodland Park School when she stepped off the dance floor and crumpled to the floor.
A parent chaperone who works as a nurse rushed over and performed CPR before emergency crews arrived. She was flown to Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, where she was pronounced dead within an hour later. An autopsy performed the next day was inconclusive.
The popular 8th grader was celebrated in her suburban community last month for selling 3,463 boxes of Girl Scout cookies, a county record. She won an iPad and earned a helicopter ride from the deck of the USS Midway.
