Bari's "Both Sides-sim" Proves to Be a Bust

CBS News finally released the “60 Minutes” segment “Inside CECOT,” last night-- one month after cosplaying editor-in-chief Bari Weiss abruptly stopped it from airing.  The delayed segment centered on the Trump administration sending Venezuelan migrants to CECOT, the infamous prison in El Salvador known for its cruel and inhumane conditions. Although Weiss halted it from airing in the U.S., a 13-minute version was temporarily released in Canada and widely shared online.

The decision from "Both Sides Bari" made headlines and caused significant backlash.  She claimed that she wanted to include an on-camera interview with a member of the Trump administration despite the administration’s refusal to do so.  “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera,” Weiss reportedly said during an editorial meeting after pulling the package. 

In an internal note at the time, correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi described Weiss’ move as “political” because the segment had already met internal reporting standards. It is not clear whether Bari (who doesn't have a reporting background) was familiar with CBS' reporting standards.  In a statement, Alfonsi said: “We requested responses to questions and/or interviews with DHS, the White House and the State Department. Government silence is a statement, not a VETO. Their refusal to be interviewed is a tactical maneuver destined to kill the story.  If the administration’s refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to spike a story, we have effectively handed them a ‘kill switch’ for any reporting they find inconvenient.”

The Wall Street Journal reported that Weiss, Alfonsi, CBS News President Tom Cibrowski and other “60 Minutes” leaders met in New York “in recent days.” Alfonsi and a film crew also traveled to Washington, D.C., in an attempt to land interviews with Trump officials for the segment. Weiss, who has ties to the current administration, also attempted to lock down an interview with a Trump official but failed, per The Washington Post.  So the end result from Bari's stunt resulted in no significant updates to the story-- just a delay in reporting that waters down its impact.

There were some changes to the piece, however.  Alfonsi included additional commentary which noted: “Since November,  '60 Minutes' has made several attempts to interview key Trump administration officials on camera about our story. They declined our requests.”  Because of the delay in airing the episode, the new version also featured information about Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was kidnapped two weeks ago with his wife, Cilia Flores by U.S. forces.

Bari's spokesperson tried to put a sheen of competence on her stunt: “CBS News leadership has always been committed to airing the 60 MINUTES CECOT piece as soon as it was ready.”   The fact remains that Alfonsi had already tried to get a Trump official to go on camera-- and they refused.  Bari obviously doesn't trust her reporters and cares more about her phony "both sides-ism" than real reporting.

 

Trump Shows What a Sick Bastard He Really Is

Convicted felon Donald Trump showed us once again what an ignorant jackass he is-- and that he is no leader.  Commenting on the tragic death of Rob Reiner and his wife yesterday, Trump posted: 

 

1. Rob Reiner was neither tortured and struggling (but Trump certainly appears to be himself);

2.  There is no such thing as "Trump Derangement Syndrome"

3. Reiner did not pass away due to a "mind-crippling disease"-- he was stabbed by his son;

4. The Trump administration is not surpassing any goals or expectations-- in fact, the administration is falling behead on most of his promises (lowering prices, staying out of foreign wars, deporting criminals)

5. America is definitely NOT in a "Golden Age" 

All of this hateful bullshit is what everyone has come to expect from a man who danced on the grave of the late Sen. John McCain, called military members who died “suckers and losers,” and seems to delight in the pain he inflicts on others daily. 

Of all people, even Marjorie Taylor Greene called out Trump’s post. “Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically killed at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues, and their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak. This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies,” Greene wrote in a post on X. “Many families deal with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues. It’s incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy especially when it ends in murder.”

 

Botched Trump Interview Shows That CBS is Now a Propaganda Machine

In his interview with “60 Minutes” that aired on Sunday, convicted felon Donald Trump gloated over CBS’ decision to bribe him and praised the news division’s new right-wing leader—but the network did not air these comments during their telecast.

The comments about the payoff did not make the program’s televised edit, but CBS posted them online later, along with the rest of the interview. Ironically, the payout to Trump was based on his complaint that edits to an interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 amounted to election interference.

Legal experts say Trump’s suit was without merit, but CBS chose not to defend its own journalism, instead pursuing a cozier relationship with Trump amid its parent company’s major merger. Congressional Democrats recently launched an investigation into the matter, suggesting the payoff was “an offer of payment and benefits to a government official designed to achieve a specific outcome from the government—in other words, a bribe.”

In other comments that CBS also chose not to air, Trump praised the network’s newly appointed editor-in-chief Bari Weiss as “a great person.” Weiss is a conservative columnist who most recently led The Free Press, a right-leaning media outlet, and who has begun to shift CBS’ news operation further to the right.

During the on-air segment Trump was asked about his pardon of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, replying, “I don’t know who he is.” Asked about Zhao’s apparent role in boosting a crypto coin benefitting the Trump family, he responded, “I know nothing about it, because I’m too busy doing the other thing.” 

For years, Trump has argued that former President Joe Biden was unfit for office based on claims he was mentally unstable. And yet Trump has been accused of mental instability by several prominent political figures.  By paying off Trump, hiring Bari Weiss to run the news division, and then trying to hide damning comments made during the interview, CBS continues to demonstrate that it is a compromised media organization. The network continues to lurch to the right, and shouldn't be trusted as a news source.

 

Cronkite and Murrow Are Rolling Over in Their Graves

Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather has criticized CBS News for making journalist Bari Weiss its editor-in-chief.  Rather said that the hiring of the "anti-woke" opinion writer, as well as CBS coming under the control of billionaire David Ellison (whose father is a friend of President Donald Trump) meant that CBS News will be catering to the Trump agenda.  “The American people will pay the price for this move, as will the journalists of CBS News who can no longer credibly serve as watchdogs because the ones they are meant to hold to account are signing their paychecks and hobnobbing with the president,” the veteran journalist wrote.  He warned, “It is a dark day in the halls of CBS News.”

Bari Weiss is the whiny opinion writer that quit her job at the New York Times because she thought she was being bullied by co-workers and that her editors seemed to take their cues from Twitter discourse.  She liked to make herself the champion of 'anti-wokesters', but Weiss crying about ‘cancel culture’ when she spent her college years trying to get Arab professors fired for criticizing Israel has always been laughable.  Her NYT resignation letter bounced back and forth between trying to argue that "cancel culture" is this massive problem to then whining that the New York Times bosses wouldn't fire her coworkers who say her works sucks. You can't have it both ways, Bari.

CBS’ parent company, Paramount, named Weiss the editor-in-chief of CBS News following the company’s acquisition of “The Free Press” for $150 million. The move angered journalists and media figures, as Weiss’ outlet has made waves for challenging DEI, gender ideology, and supporting Israel.

Rather also questioned Weiss’ credentials.  “The former opinion writer for The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times is not a reporter. She has never worked in television news and she has never led a staff larger than a few dozen,” Rather wrote. “That all changed this week when David Ellison, whose Skydance Media recently acquired CBS, installed Weiss in a position created for her. She will not report to the president of CBS News — as one might expect — but to David Ellison directly.”

The former CBS anchor also addressed Weiss’ recent statement that she wants to combat illiberalism on both the right and left in her new role, criticizing her for going after both sides when one side has Trump.  “While one must keep an open mind, it is hard to do so when such a statement portends a push for ‘both-sidesism’ and arguments reliant on false equivalences. There can be no equivalences drawn between the two political extremes in this country, especially when one extreme is led by a man who rarely speaks without lying.”

Weiss’ hiring comes months after Paramount’s merger with Skydance that resulted in Ellison, the former Skydance CEO, being named CEO of the new joint company. In addition to being close to Trump, Ellison’s father, Larry, is a pro-Israel tech mogul worth around $300 billion.

Rather continued, saying that the deal and hiring of Weiss are “signals to everyone, especially to the man in the Oval Office, that CBS is no longer independent, but under the tutelage of a conservative billionaire who is putting more than his thumb on the scale.”  “Anything that runs afoul of Trump’s agenda may be flagged and is unlikely to be aired unaltered, if aired at all. No journalist or their work can remain unaffected by toiling in such an environment,” he said.   “It is a dark day in the halls of CBS News, where the portraits of television news pioneers once hung — Cronkite, Murrow, Sevareid, Collingwood. They were journalists who made television a trusted source of information. Whom and what are we to believe today?” Rather asked.

Trump is Using His Administration to Prop Up His Failing Media Companies

After Donald Trump’s media company reported major losses in 2024, he now appears to be clearing the way for his business—and bottom line—to succeed. The Trump Media & Technology Group Corp’s recent 10-K filing listed multiple risk factors for why its platforms—such as Truth Social or the new Truth.Fi—might fail. 

One such factor is the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which Trump temporarily paused with a Feb. 10 executive order. The FCPA makes it illegal for U.S. companies to bribe foreign officials for government contracts.  Per Trump’s executive order, Attorney General Pam Bondi will revise the FCPA to "promote American competitiveness.” 

Another factor listed was Trump’s own track record of filing for bankruptcy.  "A number of companies that were associated with President Donald J. Trump have filed for bankruptcy. There can be no assurances that TMTG will not also become bankrupt,” the filing said.   Some of Trump’s bankrupt businesses include the Taj Mahal Casino, Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, and Trump Castle Hotel & Casino.  Now with executive power, Trump’s business ventures might be positioned more favorably than ever before.

In a press release, Trump Media lied and said the “Biden-era SEC” was responsible for its major net losses. More specifically, it cited the SEC delaying Trump Media’s merger with Digital World Acquisition Corporation, which caused “significant legal expenses.”   In 2023, Trump’s company paid $18 million to settle an SEC investigation into its merger with DWAC just days after investors were arrested—and later sent to prison—for insider trading.  Despite its murky past, the future of Trump Media is looking bright—and riddled with corruption.

Greedy Asshole Elon Musk is Now Threatening Americans

Dylan Hedtler-Gaudette works at the Project on Government Oversight,a nonpartisan watchdog group focused on reducing bureaucratic waste. He also happens to be blind. So when he criticized Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service in testimony on Capitol Hill last week, Musk unleashed an online attack Hedtler-Gaudette described as “surreal” in its juvenile bigotry.

First, Musk retweeted a post on X noting that the “blind director of watchdog group funded by George Soros testifies that he does not see widespread evidence of government waste” and added two laughing/crying emojis. The tweet garnered more than 21 million views, and sparked dozens of hateful messages to Hedtler-Gaudette’s account.  “He couldn’t see shit … perfect excuse for being unable to perform your job,” one poster said. “The dei blind guy can’t see fraud. U can’t make up this garbage,” another wrote. 

One person even called for people to unearth Hedtler-Gaudette’s bank account.The episode illustrates how Musk’s unparalleled online reach has given him a powerful tool to attack individuals who criticize DOGE, with one post able to spark hundreds of blistering responses from his followers.

Last week, he amplified baseless claims about the judge who overturned Trump’s funding freeze on federal grants that named his government employee daughter. Musk has called for the dismissal of journalists who have written about DOGE, calling their actions “possibly criminal.” 

As he hunts for places to slash the federal bureaucracy, the billionaire has reposted the names and titles of individual government employees, insinuating they should be fired.Digital rights experts say the situation has created an unprecedented imbalance in power. Musk’s massive online following, his ownership of a social media platform where he can dictate content moderation rules, and his position heading a government entity with access to private data, give him a unique ability to threaten those who question him and chill dissenting speech. 

“People do not feel safe speaking out in this country against the government,” said Ryan Calo, a law professor at the University of Washington. “Because the government in the form of Elon Musk and President Trump himself will catalyze retribution.”Hedtler-Gaudette said that Musk’s decision to ridicule a blind, 38-year-old government waste expert exhibits something different: “He’s a fundamentally small person,” Hedtler-Gaudette said.

Trump Press Secretary Caught in Bizarre Lie About Condoms

New Trump press secretary Karoline Leavitt opened her first press briefing by committing to “telling the truth from this podium every single day.” But then, of course, she went on to lie. 

Leavitt attempted to justify the widely decried and possibly illegal federal spending freeze ordered by President Donald Trump via the Office of Management and Budget. “DOGE and OMB also found that there was about to be $50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza,” she claimed.  Trump donor and "DOGE Chair" Elon Musk amplified the made-up story on his X account. “Tip of iceberg,” Musk wrote, later adding, “My guess is that a lot of that money ended up in the pockets [of] Hamas, not actually condoms.”

The attempted attack on the Biden administration is a complete lie. In September, the U.S. Agency for International Development released a report on government spending on contraception and condom shipments made over the last year. Absolutely none of the $60.8 million was sent to Gaza or anywhere else in the Middle East.

Leavitt was also completely unable to inform the public about how vital services like Medicaid would be affected by the spending freeze-- another utterly embarrassing moment in Leavitt's debut presser. Considering the track record of Trump’s former press secretaries—Sean Spicer, Sarah Sanders, and Kayleigh McEnany—there will surely be many more lies to come.

Butt-Kissing Bezos Continues to Lose Talent From Wash Post

Another high-profile member of the Washington Post editorial staff has left the paper--cartoonist Ann Telnaes, who had been at the outlet for 16 years.  She quit after WAPO brass killed her cartoon featuring president-elect Donald Trump.

“The cartoon that was killed criticizes the billionaire tech and media chief executives who have been doing their best to curry favor with incoming President-elect Trump,” the Pulitzer-Prize winning cartoonist wrote on Substack under the title “Why I Quit The Washington Post.”

“There have been multiple articles recently about these men with lucrative government contracts and an interest in eliminating regulations making their way to Mar-a-lago,” she wrote. “The group in the cartoon included Mark Zuckerberg/Facebook & Meta founder and CEO, Sam Altman/AI CEO, Patrick Soon-Shiong/LA Times publisher, the Walt Disney Company/ABC News, and Jeff Bezos/Washington Post owner.” 

Maga Musk Fights Against Reality

Billionaire conservative donor Elon Musk called on the public to stop donating to the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit that runs Wikipedia, due to the organization’s support for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). “Stop donating to Wokepedia until they restore balance to their editing authority,” Musk wrote on X, responding to a post from the anti-trans account Libs of TikTok noting that the foundation spent $50 million of its $177 million budget on DEI.

A spokesperson for Wikipedia explained that its investment in diversity is meant to make the digital encyclopedia more accurate. “Wikipedia is built on the premise that it becomes better when more people of different backgrounds—including political persuasions—source, edit, curate, and research content. Our equity goal advances that,” they said.

For years now, particularly in the wake of protests following the murder of George Floyd, conservatives have attacked DEI efforts. The right’s complaints against Wikipedia are also reflective of the longstanding conservative desire to control information.

Musk has been a part of this conservative crusade since spending billions to acquire Twitter, now known as X. Musk removed many of the societal guardrails that had been put in place by Twitter’s previous management, and the site has become arguably the biggest spreader of political misinformation in the world. The lies and false information spread across X contributed to an election win for Musk’s favored candidate, Donald Trump.

X’s role as a disinformation amplifier echoes another, older conservative project: Fox News. The network was created by former Republican operative Roger Ailes and conservative media tycoon Rupert Murdoch to change the narrative and amplify the right’s myths, lies, and political attacks. Fox was at the forefront of misinforming millions of Americans about the outcome of the 2020 election—resulting in a nearly $800 million settlement—as well as the January 6 insurrection in the U.S. Capitol.

Musk's animus to Wikipedia most likely reflects his personal bias as well. On the site, the public can learn about public figures like Musk, including his history of promoting conspiracy theories, racism, and anti-transgender bigotry.

The right has tried to counteract Wikipedia’s influence before. The site Conservapedia was launched in 2006 as a right-wing alternative. The entries on the site are extremely biased and riddled with factual inaccuracies. 

Conservatives believe that sources of information must reflect a conservative worldview rather than objective reality, which is why Trump has gone after news outlets like ABC News and The New York Times for not repeating right-wing propaganda. Even though many of these outlets have promoted conservative narratives and buckled under right-wing criticism and legal threats, it still isn’t enough for Trump.  Now Wikipedia is under fire for promoting facts instead of right-wing talking points, further proving that conservatives believe everything must bend to their will—even the encyclopedia.

Disney's Acquiescence to Trump Signals a Shift in the Culture Wars?

Over the weekend came the news that ABC News had decided (surprisingly) to settle Trump’s defamation litigation against the network. Disney additionally released a statement expressing “regret” for anchor George Stephanopoulos’ on-air claim that Trump was found liable in court for “rape.” 

Experts on media law told The New York Times that traditionally media outlets fight suits harder than ABC had chosen to do.  ABC's decision is in line with recent media outlets capitulating to the Orange Jesus.  Last month, the L.A. Times, along with The Washington Post (owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos), both spiked endorsements of Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the election.  

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, and X’s Elon Musk have also publicly praised Trump’s win (Musk having  spent millions to help engineer it), raising serious concerns about the impartiality of the platforms the men own.   For his part, Trump has now threatened future defamation lawsuits against the media. Among his targets are The Des Moines Register, “60 Minutes,” reporter Bob Woodward, and the Pulitzer Prizes in retaliation for reporting by The Washington Post and New York on Russia’s role in attempting to influence the 2016 election.

ABC's settlement with Trump could only have been with Disney chief Bob Iger’s consent, and that we might be entering a new era at Disney-- one where the company’s social activism gets tampered down for a more populist approach to creative content. This is evidenced by new reporting that Disney's Pixar removed a transgender character’s storyline from their upcoming “Win or Lose” animated film.

A spokesperson for Disney confirmed that the “Win or Lose” story arc was removed, saying "When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline." This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, as earlier this year Iger said that he wanted to “quiet things down” at Disney “after years of culture wars.” This seemed to be in reference to the company having been accused of promoting a “woke agenda” in their movies.

House ignoramus Marjorie Taylor Green will chair a new House subcommittee that will work alongside billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s unofficial federal agency, the "Department of Government Efficiency", which will seek to slash red tape and public spending.  Social media reaction to the news is hilarious.

Keeping Tabs on the New Efficiency Czar

A handy Reddit group has come together to keep the public informed of all Elon Musk's flights. And with more than 200,000 members keeping tabs on the quixotic Trump aficionado, it's safe to say not much of what Musk gets up to is missed. 

Although the group are solely tracking his jet's movements, with 10 flights over a recent three day period, there's plenty of shifting about to speculate on.  And that is exactly what Reddit users do every time Musk is on the move, as Trump's new "efficiency czar" commutes via the skies.

Late last week, Musk traveled mostly between West Palm Beach, Florida to Austin Texas, which has led to a lot of discussion about the who, what and why. In regards to the environmental impact of the constant travel, one user said: "But I’m supposed to use paper straws, got it."  Another user noted about Musk's frequent flying: "He cannot sit still for 5 minutes. Or taking the kids back to their mother."

While another pondered: "This is really what amazes me about these billionaires like Elon ever since I followed this sub. I genuinely wonder what he’d say if you asked him to describe home. Does he even really have a home at this point or is it just hotels and villas? Does he equate home with family or location or maybe where he grew up? Does he ever just stay somewhere for more than a day or two for a reason other than work? It’s really fascinating to me."

 

Gotta Suck for Trump to Be Mocked by Drudge!

The Drudge Report mocked Donald Trump's fast-food photo op after he worked the drive-thru window at a local McDonald’s in Pennsylvania, frying up food and handing meals to supporters in five pre-selected cars.

The McDonald’s store, closed for the stunt, became the backdrop for Trump’s dig at Vice President Kamala Harris, who had previously shared that she worked at McDonald’s during a summer job. Trump, however, has repeatedly claimed Harris never worked there.

Where Trump’s supporters saw it as a lighthearted engagement, a reaction among liberals and non-MAGA Republicans — like Drudge — made sport of the moment. Harris’ campaign didn’t hesitate to weigh in on the viral moment, calling the event “desperate.”

“When Trump feels desperate, all he knows how to do is lie,” Harris campaign spokesperson Ian Sams told The New York Times. “He can’t understand what it’s like to have a summer job because he was handed millions on a silver platter, only to blow it.”

The latest shot from Drudge, who is often credited as having “ushered in the age of Trump,” comes as the conservative more regularly takes aim at the former president as their relationship reaches new lows.

In April, Trump wrote that he, like “many others”, he “gave up on Drudge” only for Drudge to clap back that his outlet’s numbers were the highest ever in its 26-year history.  “Heartbreaking that it has been under such tragic circumstances,” he added.

Dog Famous for the Doge meme Dies at Age 18

The world famous Shiba (named Kabuso) who became an internet sensation for the Doge meme has died aged 18.  Kabuso's owner, Atsuko Sato, posted an update to say she "fell into a deep sleep" on May 24.

In a post translated from Japanese on Google Translate, Sato said: "He passed away quietly. To everyone who loved him, thank you very much. I was the happiest owner in the world. Ladies and gentlemen, from the bottom of my heart, I would like to say thank you so much."

In a post on social media, Sato said: "She passed away gently as if she was sleeping while I stroked her."  For two years, Kabosu had been battling cholangiohepatitis and chronic lymphoma leukaemia.  A farewell party was held for Kabosu over the weekend at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City.

Sato is reported to have adopted Kabuso in 2008 from a dog shelter after she was abandoned by a puppy mill along with 19 other Shibas.  She shot to internet fame when pictures of her went viral online and the Doge meme was made, particularly the one of her with paws crossed and side-eyeing the camera.

It even inspired the online currency Dogecoin in 2013 with a picture of Kabosu being used as the logo - it even inspired other dog-themed cryptocurrencies to be made. In 2021, the Doge meme was sold as a non-fungible token, or NFT, for $4m, making it the most expensive meme NFT to ever be sold.

 

Memorial Day Massacre That We Didn't Learn About in School

On May 30, 1937, the temperature in Chicago reached a balmy 88 degrees: a “perfect day for a picnic,” as some would later describe it. But 1,500 steel workers hadn’t gathered with their wives and children inside a dilapidated dance hall called Sam’s Place to enjoy a relaxing Memorial Day celebration. Sam’s was the headquarters of the Steel Workers Organizing Committee, an arm of the Congress of Industrial Organizations, and the workers were organizing a peaceful strike.

They were striking because Republic Steel, the plant where they worked, had declared it would not recognize their new union. Unlike his counterparts at U.S. Steel, Republic’s president, Tom Girdler, felt no obligation to mollify the outrageous and insulting demands of his workers. A 40-hour work week? An eight-hour day? Time-and-a-half wages for overtime? That was preposterous. It was communism, and there was no way he’d stand for it. The country was still in the midst of an economic catastrophe, after all. Those people were lucky to have jobs in the first place. 

Instead, Girdler called on his friends in the Chicago police force, arming them with submachine guns, wooden ax handles, and tear gas, and let them set up a command post inside the gates of his massive steel plant on Chicago’s southeast side. If the workers tried to picket his plant, they’d be stopped before they even started. What happened next is now regarded as one of the ugliest episodes of anti-worker violence in American history. One lone cameraman, an employee of Paramount News, filmed what actually occurred that day, and the footage he took is the only reason that any national memory of the actual event still survives.

Brutal Takedown of Marjorie

“The Daily Show” guest host Dulcé Sloan tore into Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene amid the far-right lawmaker’s attempt to oust Mike Johnson as House speaker over his push for aid to Ukraine.  Greene has “the strongest Karen energy I have ever seen,” Sloan cracked after airing a montage of her attacks on Johnson.

“Damn,” said Sloan. “Last time I saw a white lady that pissed about a bill, she was getting kicked out of a Chili’s. I don’t know if she’s going to get Mike Johnson fired, but she’s definitely getting store credit for something.”

Musk Fires Interviewer He Hired Because He Didn't Like the First Interview

Don Lemon is back in the headlines, revealing that he was fired by Elon Musk after his interview with the  bimbo billionaire didn't go as Musk had planned. Lemon said he pressed Musk on his alleged ketamine use, a recent meeting with former President Donald Trump, and better moderation on X.

The ex-CNN anchor suggested Musk does not care about moderation on X due to the content it allows to stay up.  "Apparently(free speech), that doesn’t matter to Elon Musk maybe it's just talking points,” Lemon said during an interview on CNN.  Musk refused to answer some of Lemon’s hard-hitting questions and snapped back at him for doing so.   "I don’t have to answer questions from reporters,” Musk snapped.   "I’m criticized constantly I could care less," he added.

Lemon explained why he asked Musk about ketamine and said it was because of his high responsibility across several important companies.  "His alleged drug use has been extensively written about by credible news organizations like the Wall Street Journal," Lemon told CNN.  "Elon Musk is responsible for Star Link, Tesla, a number of different companies and I think it is important for people to understand his mindset. 

"Whether he is using drugs illegally or not. He is one of the most consequential people on the planet." In June 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk uses ketamine.  Ketamine is a drug that could be prescribed for depression treatment or is used recreationally which is illegal.  Musk also smoked marijuana on camera during the Joe Rogan podcast which resulted in NASA conducting a safety review on Space X.

Lemon also asked Musk about a recent encounter he had with Trump. Musk said he was having breakfast at a friend's house and Trump just showed up. "I was at a breakfast at a friend's place and Donald Trump was invited. That's it," Musk said.  "Let's just say he did most of the talking."  Lemon asked Musk if he would help Trump pay any of his legal bills and he responded, "I’m not going to pay his legal bills in any way shape, or form."
