It seems that the British have more common sense than we do-- or at least they didn't have Dick Cheney as a former deputy Prime Minister to force through regulations protecting mining interests. Just a few days ago, a British mining company halted drilling for shale gas in England after scientists said two recent earthquakes might be linked to a controversial extraction process known as "fracking."
The British Geological Survey recorded a 1.5 magnitude quake near Blackpool in northwest England, just over a mile from a recently begun gas exploration site. Another 2.3 magnitude quake was recorded last month.
The geological survey's head of seismology, Brian Baptie, said that the two quakes appeared to have "a similar location and mechanism."
