Would a Hysterical Ginsburg Been Confirmed?

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi spoke out on the Kavanaugh nomination over the weekend, saying that if Christine Blasey Ford had behaved like Brett Kavanaugh did when he testified about her sexual assault allegation against him, she’d be labeled “hysterical.”

In his own testimony, Kavanaugh forcefully declared his innocence, at times yelling, crying and interrupting senators.  The judge called the allegations a “gross character assassination” conceived by Democratic lawmakers and fueled by “revenge on behalf of” Bill and Hillary Clinton.

“I think that he disqualifies himself with those statements and the manner in which he went after the Clintons and the Democrats,” Pelosi told interviewer Alex Wagner. She added that “if he is not telling the truth to Congress or to the FBI, then he’s not fit not only to be on the Supreme Court, but to be on the court he’s on right now.”

Now come reports that angry demeanor Kavanaugh displayed during his testimony was typical.  Charles 'Chad' Ludington, who now teaches at North Carolina State University, said over the weeend that Kavanaugh was a "frequent" and "heavy drinker",  and was often "belligerent and aggressive" when drunk.

Puerto Rico Is Still Suffering

More than a year has passed since back-to-back Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands/  Thousands of Americans perished afterwards, in the months of neglect perpetrated by their government and their president.

The situation remains grave for the survivors. Contrary to much of what has been reported, not everyone has power, more than 60,000 people are living under leaky tarps, schools have closed, and there is a continuing mental health crisis as people who survived trauma continue to live under stressful conditions. There is still two months to go in the hurricane season, where fresh doses of worry and anxiety arrive with the daily weather forecast..

Stability of any kind  remains a scarce commodity in Puerto Rico and many folks continue to ask what they can do to help Puerto Rico.  Take 10 minutes out of your day (or week) and share tweets and articles about Puerto Rico. Pressure your congressmen to put Puerto Rico on their agenda.

Most of all, talk to your not-Puerto Rican family, friends, and co-workers. Ask them what they know about Puerto Rico, and how often they read or think about it.

Mexican Town "Cracks" Down On Crime

Residents of a Mexican Pacific coast city wishing to "buff up" on their crime-fighting prowess have found an unusual way to combat the country's escalating crime.

Twice this week, locals in the resort town of Puerto Vallarta have taken matters into their own hands when it comes to "cracking down" on thieves.

In multiple incidents, authorities have been called to free naked, beaten men tied to lampposts in six different areas of the city.   Local media outlets reported that a total of 10 men were tied naked to posts.

One of the men in questioned had the letter "R'' marked on his head, which could refer to a 'rat'-- Spanish for 'thief' but also 'snitch'.  Another man tied to a lamppost had the word 'rata' [rat] inscribed into his head.

Puerto Vallarta is located in the state of Jalisco, which is the home of the Jalisco drug cartel.

Lyin' Brett Bull-shitting His Way to the Supreme Court

The tiny fraction of records that have been forced into public discussion (thanks to rebellious Democrats on the Judiciary Committee) demonstrates how willing Kavanaugh has been to perjure himself in order to advance his judicial career.

One of the things Kavanaugh did in the Bush White House was facilitate judicial nominations (such as the controversial Charles Pickering), and that's what he lied to the Senate about while under oath at least twice. In 2006, during his his D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals confirmation process, Kavanaugh told the committee that "This was not one of the judicial nominees that I was primarily handling," but the emails proved differently.

Kavanaugh also lied to the Senate, while under oath, in 2004 when he said he hadn't had anything to do with the nomination process for the virulently anti-abortion Judge William Pryor, who famously called Roe v. Wade "the worst abomination in the history of constitutional law." Multiple emails showed Kavanaugh working on this nomination, including one in December 2002 in which he wrote "we perhaps should think about recommending Pryor for [the 11th Circuit]." Pryor was nominated for the lifetime appointment in April 2003.

Then there's "memogate," the 2002 scandal involving a Senate Republican aide named Manuel Miranda who stole Democratic memos from a shared server and gave them to Kavanaugh.  In 2004 and 2006, Kavanaugh told the Senate that he had never received any documents that even "appeared to … have been drafted or prepared by Democratic staff."   That turned out to be a lie.

Kavanaugh also said, under oath, that he first learned about the Bush administration's warrantless surveillance programs with the rest of the nation, when The New York Times exposed them in 2005. But emails from September 2001 show Kavanaugh participating in the initial discussions about the programs with John Yoo (architect of Bush's torture program).

In his 2006 confirmation hearing, Kavanaugh told Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin that he "was not involved" in legal questions related to the detention of so-called enemy combatants. Durbin, however, has ecords showing that there are at least three recorded examples of Kavanaugh participating in discussions of Bush administration detainee policy, including torture.

It seem obvious that Kavanaugh was nominated to protect Trump. Republicans are trying to rush him onto the court to protect Trump, and they don't care how much he lied to them to get there.

Trump Lies Yet Again

Donald Trump told an audience during an event in North Carolina last night that his golf course in Charlotte sat along the “largest man-made lake in the world by far."  In the pantheon or Trump lies, this one has to rank as a whopper.  The Orangeman is referring to Lake Norman, which is 132 square kilometers in surface area and 1.3 cubic kilometers in water volume.

The largest man-made lake in the world (by surface area) is Africa's Lake Victoria at 66,400 square kilometers.  Lake Norman (at 132 square kilometers) doesn't even come close.

The largest  man-made lake in the world (by water volume) is Lake Kariba (again, in Africa) at 180.6 cubic kilometers.  Lake Norman (at 1.3 cubic kilometers) doesn't even come close.

In fact, Lake Norman fails to crack the top ten largest lakes in the United States-- either in surface area or water volume.  It shouldn't come as any surprise that Trump would minimize something or someone of African origin.
