The UN General Assembly has decisively approved a resolution rescinding Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, saying the designation is "null and void". Israel's claim of sovereignty over Jerusalem has never been recognized internationally, and all countries currently maintain their embassies in Tel Aviv.
Despite Trump's threat to cut financial aid to any country who backed the resolution, it was approved overwhelmingly by a vote of 128 to 9. Israel, Guatemala, Honduras, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Togo voted against the resolution. The votes for the resolution from powerful U.S. allies, such as France, Germany and the UK, have been seen as a slap in the face for Trump.
