Modern Love?

Recently, The Daily Beast published a confessional from a young woman whose life is financed by an older man. The woman, who uses the name "Melissa Beech", is a college senior in Philadelphia majoring in journalism and economics, and was recently hired as an intern at a public relations firm specializing in crisis communications and media relations.

In her blog entry, Melissa explained how, after applying for an internship at his company, this man offered to become her benefactor if she would be his girlfriend. So the two worked out an agreement, and have now been dating for a year. He pays her rent, the bill on the limit-free credit card he gave her, and takes her on lavish vacations (see picture above).

The response to the piece was far more critical than expected, with the comments quickly overflowing with righteous indignation. According to Melissa, the common misconception was that her "sugar daddy" was in the relationship purely for sex, and that she was in it just for the money. In this new blog entry, Melissa asks her boyfriend to answer some questions on the record to clear up any misconceptions. Interesting and controversial, for sure.
