Trump is Indicted

Donald Trump was taken into physical custody today by the very government he tried to overthrow two and a half years ago.   At 4:25 pm on August 3, 2023  Trump pleaded "Not Guilty" to four charges for which he could received a maximum of 55 years in a federal prison.

It was decided at today's indictment that Judge Tanya Chutkan will hold her first hearing of the case on August 28, 2023 at 10 am.  Donald Trump was instructed by the presiding magistrate that he must not violate federal or state laws; he must appear in court as required; he must sign an appearance bond; and he must not communicate about the facts of the case with anyone Trump knows to be a witness, except through counsel or in presence of counsel.

The magistrate said the most important condition of release is not committing any new crimes while on release, which could lead to him being detained and could add to the sentence he may eventually face. She told Trump it is a crime to "influence a juror or try to threaten or bribe a witness or retaliate against anyone" connected to the case. Trump said he understood.

138 police officers were injured defending Congress on the day of the insurrection, and three of those individuals were in attendance at the arraignment-- D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges, former Capitol Police Officer Aquilino Gonnell and Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn.
