Don't Try to School the Fed Chair on Cost Figures

Convicted felon Donald Trump visited Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell at the Fed's headquarters renovation site this week.  For months, Trump has been attempting to humiliate and bully the Fed chair into lowering interest rates-- to no avail.   The Trump administration arranged the tour, believing that Trump would be able to embarrass Powell with a surprise revelation in front of the media.

At the construction site, Trump tried to claim that the cost of the Federal Reserve’s renovation project had surged to $3.1 billion, compared with the Fed's official figure of $2.5 billion. Powell called him out on it, with the awkward interaction and live fact-check going viral on social media.

"It's about $3.1 billion — it went up a lot. So the $2.7 billion is now $3.1," Trump announced.  Powell wasn't having any of Trump's bullshit, replying "I'm not aware of that."

Trump tried to one-up the Fed chair, retorting, "It just came out."  "I haven’t heard that from anybody at the Fed," Powell added.  Then Trump took out a piece of paper, which Powell grabbed and started to read.

In professorial fashion, Powell said aloud, "Are you including the Martin renovation? You just added in a third building." Trump tried to counter by saying, "It’s a building that’s being built."

Powell quickly rebuffed Trump, replying: "It was built five years ago. We finished Martin five years ago." Having been completed shut down, Trump changed the subject and starts talking about how nice it is to take the helmets off.

Jerome Powell did more to fact check trump's lies in 60 seconds than the entire White House press corp did in 6 months.
